In conjunction with Hidden Faces: The Art of Japanese Masks, the ACM is going Japanese for the day.
Be heralded into the museum with a resounding opening of Taiko drums. Enjoy a warm cup of green tea as you observe the quiet art of the traditional tea ceremony, the contemplative way of Ikebana and the intricacy of wearing a traditional kimono. Try your hand at making traditional Japanese paper from scratch. Be mesmerised by the grace of the buyo dancers.
Perhaps you are more a fan of contemporary Japanese culture? Then you will enjoy the mini bazaar that is full of things to buy and goodies to eat. Fans of anime, be sure to attend our anime marathon. The night really lights up with our J-Rock concert as young musicians belt out popular Japanese hits.
So come to ACM and Let’s Go Japan!

ありがとう 皆さん for joining JCC for our 茶道 ceremony today~~!!
I certainly hope you guys learnt a lot from the tea ceremony today! I think it was the first time any of us have ever tried to whisk tea from macha... Remember the whisking action.. to bring out the foam... :))
The elegant art of chadou..
The purposeful actions and the gentle nature that it tries to cultivate..
And... Only years of training can teach you how to kneel for 45mins or longer non-stop..
If you're interested in 茶道, there will be a tea gathering on November 5th at JAS. Tickets available from JAS and urasenke at $10 each. A renowned tea master will be holding a lecture and a tea gathering at JAS so look out for the event~!
Special thanks goes out to the helpers who came today!! Hontou ni arigatou~! *bows*

The Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS) and eZoo Music and Fine Arts, supported by the Japanese Embassy in Singapore and MICA will hold the “Ceramics Beyond Borders” event from 1st to 28th September 2006 at National Library Board (NLB) to commemorate the 40 years of strong bilateral ties between Singapore and Japan.
The exhibition will feature ceramic works by famous Singaporean and Japanese artists. The reason for focusing on ceramics is that ceramics in Asia has a rich history and tradition. Accordingly, ceramics is an appropriate medium by which to foster relationships between Singapore and Japan as well as to reach out to the rest of the world.
There are vast differences between the ceramics world of both countries. Singapore’s ceramics world is characterized by the multitude of works by passionate creators with no historical burden or baggage. In contrast, it is difficult to break out of the historical mould in Japan due to the 1000 years of ceramics history. Contemporary pottery artists are constantly seeking challenges in creating innovative works, whilst at the same time leveraging on Japan’s legacy of traditional styles.
The exhibition will showcase new and existing works by Japanese and Singaporean ceramic artists. The Singapore team will feature works by contemporary ceramics artists while the Japan team will consist of the biggest names in ceramics in Japan. These artists possess a high-level of commitment to push the frontiers of ceramics art, as well as a keen interest to promote cultural communication and interaction between both countries.
Open to public from 2 to 28 September 2006, 12pm – 8pm daily. (Free admission)
Location: Level 3, National Library Building

This exhibition, in dedication to the Japanese animation from the 1950s till now, brings together 48 leading Japanese animators. Creators of Doraemon, Konan, Pokemon, Gundam, Astroboy, Kureyon Shinchan, and The Cat Returns, are some of the many on the list. Besides the film presentations of original animation made for TV broadcast, this visual extravaganza, which features originals and replicas of preparatory sketches, ‘the motion pictures’, ‘layout’, ‘background/landscape’, ‘character design catalogues’, ‘scripts’ and ‘cells’, reveals the production process and technology behind these familiar and beloved cartoon characters from Japan.
